Australia Day
What better day to start a blog. Something I have resisted for so long. But my best friend in Sydney has encouraged me to do so. So here goes…
As I woke up this morning to a red, rising sun and with the stereotypical magpies gurgling, crows cawing, lorikeets greedy chirps and butcher birds singing I began to reflect upon this great land that I love so much and this day on which we give to honour it. Such a day of Yin and Yang. The wonderful opportunities we have, the peace and abundance but at the same time the great shame that darkens our existence here. It is a shame that is constantly swept under the carpet. For so long we have denied facing and feeling it. But we need to. We need to feel the shame and honour those who lost their lives , their loved ones and their culture.
So rather than say Happy Australia Day, let us honour all that is good and reflect upon all that is not about our presence in this great country. Pain can only be healed when you acknowledge it. There is a breeze blowing in now. May the answers be carried in that breeze.
